Karate tournament tips?
i just came back from a tony young tournament a few minutes ago . im a black belt i competed in 12-13 sparring and won forth place. and didn’t eat anything since 7 oclock till we went even there i didnt eat until i had to fight and i had popcorn. during the fight i fought ASOMEONE HALF MY SIZE AND I FUCKING LOST!!!!!!!! i couldn’t believe it but for some reason i got really hot in the fight and the building was cold, i had on 4 layers of shirts! and the next fight my feet couldn’t movie it wasn’t the heat at first soon after my feet were just frozen and my body got hot again and i couldnt think, so i lost again. now what icant believe is that how come at my school i can beat adult fighters twice my height and with fast kicks to like 3rd degree black belts but i can’t beat kids my own age and half my size at a tournament please help with any advice based on this story i said so this wont happen again and i can find out what went wrong.
I usually fight adults who are more experienced and i can go 4 minutes with any breathe or tired ness or water
Also i i hit one of the guys with a rounf kick to the head like aBOUT 5 TIMES AND THEY DIDN’T CALL ONE OF THEM
THE ADULTS I SPAR ARE ABOUT 2ND DEGREE BALCK BELTS AND ARE ABOUT 24 SO THEY ARE LIGHTNING FAST!! AND ONE IS 18 AND 5 10 ADVANCE BROWN AND HIS FAST TO
THE FLOOR WAS LIKE FAKE GRASS AND GRAVEL TO

firstly, rank doesnt matter. most belt tests dont have kumite as a primary factor anyways.
Tips:
Food: eat a healthy snack every 2-3 hours. popcorn doesnt count. something small and packed with energy
Size:dont be enbarrassed losing to a smaller fighter.check out this vid of a short guy/world champion at kumite open weight Rafael Aghayev
there are tactics against fighting smaller people. They’re faster quicker and have a smaller target to hit. and when you clash you will lose if you’re in a normal stance because you have to punch down to be on target and they have to punch straight.
You have to lower yourself and use your reach. If you two fight at the same height your reach will make a difference. If the guy/girl is 5’3′ fight at that height because thats how you’ll prevent them from attacking you
Fighting kids: most adults are either godly good or no longer competitive. beating a 40 year old accountant there for physical benefits isnt much of an accomplishment. if you want to be competitive spar with other competitive fighters.
warmup-cooldown: pre match you have to have a good warmup so you’ll go into your first match 100%. after your first match dont just turtle up with layers. relax your mind but keep your body fairly warm.
bounce a bit jog keep your self warm. do this be4/after every match
as you get older and possibly more competitive you’ll be fighting in a weight catogory so height wont be much of a issue. but take the loss and get better. go to the next tournament beat the guy who beat you and feel good.
EDIT:::round kicks: that happened to me a bit too. I wasnt there so I wouldnt know the reason. based on the criteria of scoring :form, vigorous application, zanshin, distance, spirit/sporting attitude, timing and distance. maybe the refs just didnt like you. that happens. maybe its politics. maybe they thought you were lacking. maybe they were bad refs that happens too
good luck
i’m second brown, and i can beat 2nd dans.
Although i admit, i hate katas, and ‘learning’ karate.
I just train kumite with friends ALL the time, and its so fun
Don’t be afraid to talk to the judges if you feel like something was unfair or not seen. I went from a third place to a second place prize at a tournament when I was a kid because I reminded the judges one of my opponents was a higher belt than me.
I do not believe you have black belt .
Second you took wrong side of martial art -you want beat up people . Third better grow up , get some psychological training .
Some masters , not many -can explain to you how to win fight , you want to beat up people , wrong idea .
If you really want to win now and always, re-read monk_yar’s comment until it rings true for you. Then go learn some kata so you have some real focus. By the time that you can really fight, you will no longer feel the need to beat someone else. The end result of you beating a bunch of people is just that you become a legend in your own mind. Nobody else even cares. I hope you dump some of the BS out of your cup so there becomes room for knowledge in it. J
