Martial Arts Sparring (highlights)
This is a sparring demo of the martial art of hanmudo. It is a Korean martial art which has techniques from judo, taekwondo, hapkido and other Korean martial arts. The demo includes throws, sweeps, locks, kicks and punches. Its not the best in the world but we only had 5 minutes to think of something.

Can you recommend a martial arts studio in Seattle?
I have a black belt and was an instructor in taekwondo and hapkido, but now i’m moving to Seattle and i want something different.
i’m not interested in belts or forms. I want a self defense/fighting school. I need a place that does full contact sparring unarmed and with weapons, and has an emphasis on street style fighting and self defense.
Question about teaching…?
I’m going to try and word this as comprehensively as I can, so please forgive me. I left my dojang after 12.5 years studying Taekwondo and the defensive aspect of Hapkido. I left as a 3rd degree black belt and taught for some time while I was there (as an assistant Instructor). I’m in college now (3000 miles from home) and am a contracted cadet. My LTC has given me permission to introduce Taekwondo to the Battalion since they are not allowed to teach us combatives (I don’t know why) and as a form of extra PT. I am holding times for certain days so that my fellow cadets can come and train with me. I was used to sparring, sometimes full contact without gear. The issue is that I CANNOT allow them to spar. It’s part of both the rec center’s rules and my LTC said I can’t have them do it either. I’m doing the best I can to make the training as realistic as possible (as the Olympic aspect of it isn’t…that realistic) but I’m having trouble with it seeming more like just a workout as opposed to them being able to apply it in a self-defense situation. My question is: since I can’t have them spar, is there anything I can do that can put them in a simulated situation? I know it sounds weird but I honestly don’t know how else to put it… …
I figured I might have them shadow fight where they can pretend to hit each other, just keep in mind to keep their guard up, block, dodge, divert and whatnot.
@ Lion – I will eventually teach them blocks. For now, I’m teaching basic strikes like punch, jab, elbow and palm strike, variations of those, front kick, push kick, round house and side kick and variations of those but most importantly, proper posture and execution of the technique. But eventually I will have them block and whatnot as that is essential. I will keep the partner drills in mind though, thanks.
@ Sensai – Thank you. I was amazed by the videos to be honest. I think soon after they learn basic blocks, I’ll have them work on this. Thank you, sir.

Is this normal for a blackbelt student?
My master is a 7th degree in taekwondo, 6th degree in hapkido, 3rd in judo and jujitsu and holds 1st degree black belts in kenpo and wing chun. I just earned my second blackbelt, I have them in taekwondo and hapkido. Anyways, since I got my blackbelt we have been doing full contact sparring without protective gear. and he is incredibly quick. I end up getting kicked in the head often, hard. and several times i’ll hop in the shower and find blood running down my legs.
Is that common for instructors to start literally killing their students? lol I know he is better than me, why does he have to act like he has gotta prove it?
