How to Do Better At Blocking??!!?

I train in taekwondo and is also a blue belt. I just got my blue belt and also started sparring (full contact) in the dojo and i found out one thing: i can’t block fast enough! I know the blocking techniques to use against different kick and punches but my reaction time is too slow for me to do them ucessfully in sparring. So i’m looking for some techniques to shorten my reaction time and make me think quiker. all opinions welcome thanks :)

I Cant train at the MMA School that i want to. I am stuck in this place. Advice?

I train Krav Maga At Premier Martial Arts. They do have an MMA Class. But that is once a week and i want more. The instructors there DO know what they are talking about. The foot work, the punches everything. they know what they are talking about. I REALLY Want to train here http://www.nemmafitness.com/ BUT My mom wont drive me there because " It is a bad area and i do not want to go there at night" Hopefully i can get a car and drive there myself.

I want to train MMA Very badly. Im not talking one hour a week like a lot of dojos do. I want to train at least 5 hours a day for MMA. But i cant go to that place because i do not have a car and wont for about 7 months. I really Want to start now, but should i just pick it up then?

Until then i want to buy head gear and gloves so me and my brother can spar so i can still have my foot work and movements still in shape.

Why are Karate and TKD practitioners are so closed minded.?

I’m not saying all practitioners are, but I’ve done boxing for 4 years and when people like them ask me what I do they say "Come to my place if you wanna learn something" or " I will show you a real work out" or even "My 10 years old son is a black belt he can knock you out in one hit". They believe there art is THE ONE and nothing can compare to it. I can tell you in my opinion boxing is the closest thing to a street fight you can possibly get and what I’ve seen in Karate sparring is more a game of tag, I know because I’ve done it a few times both Shotokan and Kyokushin Karate. I respect all Martial Arts, but it seems maybe it’s the Japanese Ego of being superior than others.

In terms of street fighting, I think boxing has a greater advantage over Karate because a boxer can absorb more punches and their more lighter and there feet, and trust me I weight 240lbs and I spar with guys 260-280lbs range so I can’t stand there and block there punches. I’m not saying Karate sucks in a street fight say against some street thug or some jock, but against someone who is an experience fighter it won’t be a simple strike to the face or stomach and knock me out like Karate suppose to be like.

How would you choreograph a realistic fight between a woman and men?

I’m preparing for a role in a small budget independent film as a business woman sent to straighten out a well site/base for a large Oil and Gas company. The settings in northern Canada in the winter months and we’re about to film an important fight scene.

The back story is that I’m there to demand production and will be firing many of the rig hands. An arguement starts and many of the rig hands start a fight with me. The fight starts outside the rig in the snow as I’m walking away to a hellipad after firing many rig hands at a town meeting. I’m attacked by three middle aged man in the snow. It’s suppose to be a very brutal fight where I’m tackled and thrown into the snow, against equipment and very beaten with a lot of blood. However, in the end I’m suppose to win the fight and humiliate the three men by beating them convincingly in front of their friends, children, and wives. My question is how I can make the fight brutal and still as realistic as possible.

The back story on my character is that I’m an high level executive that is also an extremely trained athlete. I’m about 5’11" and am suppose to be a very imposing figure though I’m model thin at only 125lbs. Though the scene will be filmed in the snow, I’ll be in a black business dress suit and in heels. I’m about 6’3" in the heels they’re asking me to wear so I sound look very imposing on film.

My thought is that I would be tackled and thrown against the drilling equipment. The screenplay has me being beaten up with several punches until I’m very bloody.. this happens for about a solid 1 to 2 mintues of the fight. Slowly i’m suppose to get the upper hand by fighting back against the men by slugging it out with them using hard kicks. I won’t be kiccking any men in the crotch and there won’t be martial art style attacks from me… just pure slugging and a majority being kicks and knees.

How can I put together a 8 minute fight scene that would be realistic. Would it be hard to make a fight between an extremely in shape woman in her late twenties and three out of shape but extremely large men in their 40′s realistic?

Martial Arts Speed Training – Advanced Candle Punches

I have been using demonstrations from Youtube on candle punches as training methods, as well as some new training methods of my own and thought I would post some of them. This candle punch training could take candle punching to a new level. This exercise teaches a simple principle. It teaches you to snap your punches. This is no substitute for regular sparring practice, bag work, or martial arts practice.

What type of exercises did Bruce Lee employ to get his punches/kicks so hard?

People said his punches/kicks felt like a freight train, what type of exercises did he do to make his punches/kicks that hard!? Are there some hidden exercises that Bruce Lee did which made his punches/kicks that hard? Is anyone informed about this?

Thanks.

Aggresiveness during sparring – knockdown karate?

I don’t mean being aggresive to hurt your opponent in a bad way, but be aggresive enough to survive the kumite and be focused to withstand the pain. What can you suggest that I should do so my ‘old’ aggresive self back when I started karate gets back again?

Lately I’ve been missing kumite classes, simply because I feel I will get destroyed or absorbed a lot of pain with punches and kicks. I wasn’t like this back when I started. I used to go to class to do kata and kumite and always gets excited to get the fight on during sparring. Before, I don’t fear getting punched or kick, I just try to absorb everything and give something in return. I used to love the pain and bruises. But now, I don’t know, since I got knocked down twice with kicks to head and punches to body, I somehow avoided sparring and makes tons of excuses not to train.

Can anyone help me bring out the ‘old’ me? I need words of wisdom please.

Thanks
EDIT:

Thank you very much for the words of encouragement and enlightenment. Yes, I think I was kind of surprised to know and felt the feeling of being knocked down and defeated. I was so ashamed of my self, confidence around 50% instead of 100%. I train at home doing shadown boxing and improving the block to the head by raising my arms and knees high. I now understand that there is soooo much to improve on and I can’t forever be rushing forward like a bull or exchanging blows with whoever is in front me. I now understand that there will always be a better fighter, and surprising that it could be someone I’m not expecting to be.

Thank you again. It came to my mind that all fighters, even the great boxers, have their confidence shaken after every loss. I think I will have to remove that emotional part and keep in mind that this is a full contact sport and being knocked down means I’ve down something wrong and my opponent has done something right in that instant.
