Martial Arts Sparring

Martial Arts Sparring (highlights)

This is a sparring demo of the martial art of hanmudo. It is a Korean martial art which has techniques from judo, taekwondo, hapkido and other Korean martial arts. The demo includes throws, sweeps, locks, kicks and punches. Its not the best in the world but we only had 5 minutes to think of something.

Question about sparring (Martial Arts related)?

I’m a 2nd degree dan at a local studio and I spar about 2-3 times a week. I always seem to get "gun-shy" fighting, also if the person is better than me I always just freeze. For example there is this one fighter (former grand champion in tournaments) I always get really nervous and freeze. I need to get over it and fight, but it just never seems to work. And every time I see him I start to doubt myself because no matter how hard I train I can’t even match 10% of what he is. He hasn’t sparred in almost a year and he pushes over me like nothing. I know that the experience he has and former training kicks in, but no matter what I do he always seems to just make me look bad and I feel like I’m getting worse and worse. It’s like a demon in my head and I’ve been dealing with this for at least 10 years. I’ve tried many different kinds of training and I feel like there’s this wall that I hit and I see my students doing stuff I can’t do in no time at all but I honestly can’t do half of the stuff I teach (I know how to teach it).

What should I do? I’ve tried talking it out with my master and tried many different ways to get myself over it, but I just think that I’m not meant to be at the level. I would like serious answers…

Thank you in advanced for answering

Is there any martial arts competition in 07 for any ppl?

I’m in the eighth grade going to ninth in a few days. im looking for a martial arts competition to join. i don’t really care what kind of martial arts it is, as long as i can have a fun time fighting and sparring. A competition where a 14 year old can join and is 120lbs, also located in california. I don’t really care if there are broken bones or fatal injuries, i jus wanna have fun.

Could anyone tell me what martial arts class is like?

In RL im extremely shy and usually have been picked on alot.
Im very nervous at times and worry about people trying to fight me.
If i start doing a martial arts class, does everyone in the class usually get along? And how does the sparring work? And what do they usually do for begininers.

Does Kali take too long to learn as a martial arts?

Its because I take Kali at a martial arts academy, and I have been training in it for a year now or possibly more?

The training started as footwork, stick, sometimes mano a mano, and very rarely sparring. I fear that I wasted my time in it.
EDIT: Is it because of the student or the teacher?

Which martial arts style is best for me?

I am a 26 year old female interested in martial arts classes. I’m 5’8" and about 140 pounds. I want to do something really physical where I can release energy and aggression. Maybe something that involves a lot of sparring. I don’t really care if the focus is on grappling, or kicking; I’m just not into boxing styles. There are just so many styles out there. If someone could help narrow it down to a few I can check out, that would really help. Thanks!

Martial art with most sparring?

I’m interested in starting a martial art that is extremely practical in real world fights and involves lots of full contact sparring.

I tried Krav Maga a while back and enjoyed it. My only complaint with Krav Maga is instructors don’t have people spar with each other in low level classes. Subsequently you don’t do any real fighting until you’ve reached higher classes, which take 6 months to a year to reach. What students mostly ended up doing in low level classes was practicing strikes and kicks by hitting thin air or simulating strikes by hitting cushioned bags that partners held. While the actual fighting style seems practical and "no nonsense", I felt the training in lower classes fails to prepare you psychologically for a real world fight where a real opponent is moving around and fighting unpredictably.

I therefore feel the only practical martial arts are ones that involve full contact sparring on a regular basis and also condition you "psychologically" to take hits, strike people ect. My question is what would be the best martial art to pickup? Again, I’m interested in raw bare bones practicality, so my interests would be more along the lines of MMA, Krav Maga, Boxing, Mui Thai Kick Boxing ect. As opposed to Karate, Tai Kwon Doe ect where you use a long drawn out belt system that takes years and practice "form" over real world strikes and hits (Note: I respect all martial arts and I’m not criticizing Karate or more traditional marital arts they’re just not what I want). I also don’t care about competition events. I’m only interested using this as a last resort for self defense in the real world.

I’d be willing to go back to Krav Maga if higher classes have more sparring. But I’m wondering if this is the best route, or if something like MMA would be better because it seems to have more sparring. I would appreciate answers from people with real experience doing the above martial arts in one form or another. Thanks in advance.

How come in old school Boxing and Martial Arts you get to spar in tournaments way sooner.?

When I was in taekwondo my trainer (half korean half white) was born in korea but he came here and when he was like 9 and started continuing tkd when he was 13 and he said he started his first tournament in two months. he made me wait until i was at least to red belt. which takes about 3 years.
and my boxing coach had a match in one frickin month but he says i have to wait until July and i started in january
