Martial Arts Sparring
Martial art sparring?
At my "dojo" or taekwon-do school, i spar against my friends and other people that attend the school. When i fight a punching bag, i have so much power and quickness, but against someone, i hit weaker and not as fast. I think its because i dont want to hurt them, which makes me hesitant … does anyone know how to get rid of this? Please dont say for me to imagine them as someone i hate, i dont really hate someone enough to kick the snot out of.
We definitely go full contact, and i sparred at my friends house, and he doesnt take it easy … So i can say that i have taken many hits … to the nose, head, chest, stomach, ribs … you get the picture.
Calling people who have taken martial arts?
I’m writing a fantasy story and I’d like to know a few things about martial arts. I realize that there are many forms of martial arts but since it is a fantasy I was planning on combining them into one thing.
Is there a common position that you return to when sparring?
Martial arts are commonly linked with self defense, but what about offensive moves? Does one form of martial arts concentrate more on offensive moves?
Anything really important I should know if I am going incorporate into my story? (I know the best thing to do would be to take a martial art myself but I’ve already check and the local selection is too expensive right now)
Thanks!
What's your opinion of a martial arts instructor who only has his students spar with their own gender?
So far in my new class (BJJ), the instructor has only had females sparring with females, and the males spar only with each other. Last time I took a that had students of both genders (another form of jujitsu), we sparred with all the other students in rotation. This new way just feels odd to me.
I feel I should add that its an adult class.
Martial arts instructors, do you spar with your students?
I have been to schools where the instructor won’t spar at all with students. I have also seen instructors who will only spar at the end of a rigorous class when the students are completely exhausted and can’t really put up a fight.
Is there a legitimate reason for this, or are they just afraid they might look bad in front of their students?
Should a girl wear a cup if she is sparring in martial arts?
asking for girlfriend: why or why not?
Is it normal to feel sick while wearing a mouthguard in martial arts?
Hi, I’ve been wearing a mouthguard in sparring in martial arts, and I kinda feel like throwing up while wearing it. Is this normal, anybody else feel the same?
